I take it you mean rattles etc when driving. There is a mod that can be done to cure knocking from the back roof frame which involves changing 2 bolts to larger ones that fit tighter near the rear hinges. Creaking etc can sometimes be fixed by cleaning all the rubber seals properly and then lubricating them with MB silicone which comes in a little tube designed for the job. This stuff protects the rubber and stops it drying out and perrishing - also it helps make a good seal. Other than that you might need to get the roof re-aligned and all the roof locking clips tightened which I expect is a big job. Try cleaning and lubricating all the seals first including all round the rear window etc. Hope this helps.

I have the mod papers for changing the 2 bolts if you would like them, this should stop the knocking noise. As Matt above any silicon greas will make the rubbers last longer, water proofing them at the same time

Hi to all - its my first post, so here goes .. I am looking for some help as I also have an sl with a roof which rattles. I would love to give the bolt modification discussed in this tread a go. Does anyone have a copy of the modification procedure?

I would welome a copy of the referred to bolt modification if possible please. I do not yet have a knocking, more of a creaking on poor road surfaces which is most minor roads and many more. Probably only needs re-lubricating at this stage but.......

I been round the bolt change loop - it did help a bit. I got some of the grease MB use themselves & that helped a little.

The thing however still creaks & clicks - the worst time is when the car & the weather is cold - it clicks from somewhere behind my head/seat on bumpy roads & when accelerating (which will be the body twisting slightly).

The click could well be a rubber seal under compression against something smooth shiny which when it is moved laterally breaking the contact sounds like a click.

It does however REALLY ANNOY ME :twisted::twisted::twisted:

Yet another unique MB feature

I will see what else I have on this later in the day,,in the mean time drop the roof down and drive a little faster, and the rain will not come in

Hi Malcolm - keen to know if you could turn up anything else on this - deffo linked to ambient temperature - once the car interior warms up, the noise reduces (either that or I've turned up the volume on the CD without realising!!) :)

Can you send them to me too please Malcolm. Attempting the c pillar lock adjustment this afternoon and hope it doesn't introduce additional creaks!
