Hi all,

I have a c240 2001, w203.
I recently started to have a problem starting my car with the electronic key. This weekend, I put in the key into the ignition and tried the turn the key but couldnt. The normal sound associated with me putting my key in didn't happen. Nothing happened for 10 seconds. I took the key out, put it in again and repeated it for a couple of times. Then it finally made the noise to signal that I could turn the key, which I did and the car started.

I've never had this behaviour before. Could it be the battery in the car or the battery in the key is going? I dont drive to work anymore, so the car is sitting on the driveway Monday to Friday. I don't have any problem s unlocking the car either.

Any ideas?

Thanx
Waga

I had the same problem with 2000 W209 until it would not work at all and left stranded,
. It seems to be quite a common problem. It will need new lock unit and programming key from germany and will cost about £500-600. Bummer hey?

Have you cleaned the sensor part of the electronic key? Also the metal key should not protude out of the key housing.
