The soft top on my CLK has developed a problem. The actual soft top part operates properly but the problem is with the cover of the storage compartment which will neither lift or fold, preventing the hood to fully fold in the compartment or close the soft top. The problem first occurred when I tried to close the soft top. The hood was fine, lifted out of the storage compartment, but the cover would not fold down and close. I tried to push it down but it would not budge, although when I turned the engine off I easily push it closed and manually closed the roof using the special spanner. The reverse is the same, if I try to open the roof, the soft top goes through the motions ok but this time the cover will not lift. It tried using the merc tool but the lock would not budge, although again when I turned the engine off, the lock opened easily. The rear headrests operate ok. There is current flowing, as the courtesy light dims when I try to open/close the roof, and there is some kind of whirring coming from somewhere in the back. It seems like there is a switch which is not turning on or off and preventing the hood to go through it,s various stages. I,m sure this is a well trodden path so I hope I can get some advice.
