problem with e220 cdi

I took the battery out to charge it up because it was sitting awhile.
When the battery was put back in everything worked however when driving away the automatic transmission will not change up or down gear. On the dash board P-N-R-1234 is not displayed
Has anyone got any ideas

Mate has 240cdi that stuck in second gear. Turned out to be a duff battery! Not enough power to operate shift solenoids.
