Problems with Audio 10 MF2199

I've just swapped out the existing radio cassette that came with the car (a 2002 CLK200) for an Alpine Audio 10 MF2199 bought in absolutely perfect condition for £50! The player is working as it should in all respects but I have a couple of questions...

Firstly, it doesn't turn itself off when I remove the ignition key. The manual says that it should - anyone know why this might be?

Secondly, it doesn't appear to light up when its switched on. I'm uncertain as to whether it only lights in a visible way in dark conditions but perhaps someone could tell me.

One other thing - the keys that I bought/used to remove the original player worked, but now won't come out of the removed machine. Is there a way to remove them without causing damage or are they stuck in there forever??

Many thanks in advance.

The main wiring plug is in correct I think.'
The car and the radio need a live supply for the memory back up, ii needs switched live from the key to run it.
There is a separate wire for the lighting.

There are adapters around for making it a plug and play for the wiring harness.

To remove the keys from the old unit just lift the spring levers, one each side, and pull the key out

Ah... thanks, but I suspect this has suddenly become beyond my capabilities! I researched the model I needed quite carefully, and it was allegedly "plug & play" and a "two minute job". Aside from that, for the life of me I can't get the release keys out of the old unit and I don't want to end up snapping them off (the spring levers are encased and not at all east to get to).

I guess it's a trip to the auto-electrician for me, then

Re the keys,, you should see in each side a hole or slot where you can lift the spring clip, or can you put a photo up of one side of the unit..
Do have a word with another ICE shop re the wiring

Having decided that this is best left alone (by me, that is ), can anyone recommend a suitable sparks/dealer close to Borehamwood and give me a rough idea of how much it's likely to cost?

Thanks again.

Thanks Malcolm. I've now spoken to their audio technician who's going to po round one day next week and sort everything out for me.
