I bought a brand new mercedes benz e270cdi in Dec 2002 and I can honestly say it is the worst car I have ever driven in terms or reliability and dealer care. The following items had problems .. satnav, phone, cd player, folding mirrors, rear seat, power(wouldnt start many times), inside electric cover for panoramic sun roof, cassette player cover fell off, seat adjustment handle fell off. The dealer in Belfast refused a courtesy car because I had bought the car in mainland uk, most of the faults were not picked up by MB computer so were not fixed and the dealer in Belfast comments..."you must have got a bad one"..."thats what happens when you buy a car just when its released..these must all be teething problems" I tried to discuss the possibility of a replacement car and was given the option of changing for the princely sum of £16500...great customer care!!! Is this what MB is all about???? My car had 22000 miles on it!Today I take delivery of a new BMW 530dse ..back to the reliable make I was accostomed to...I wonder if there are any other problem New e class owners out there??? I know at lease 5 .

You are probably aware of the problems I have had with my E270. I bought the car second hand with 10,000 miles on the clock and started having problems around a month later. I have had power problems, pulling away quickley using the kickdown and nothing happend, as you can imagine this caused a few worrying moments. Anyway they diagnosed the turbo and replaced it along with a leaky fuel pipe a couple of days ago, fingers crossed. But as I said, I'm cincerned that a Mercedes thats now done 13,000 miles has had these problems. The more I read comments like yours the more concerned I get. Like you I have previously owner BMW's and have never had any problems at all. I hope my fault was a one off.

Mine's also a Dec 2002 car, and although I've had a few minor problems, nothing that could be classed as a breakdown or that has spoiled my enjoyment of the car.

Hi the E class has had some teething problems but these have now been sorted and they have not been of a serious nature. As for BMW being reliable the last release before the current model required a new engine every 10.000 miles
