Programing SL 500 key

When this car was supplied it only had one key, I managed to get another after quite a bit of hassle but had to drive all the way from Preston to Mercedes of Bradford to pick it up, the car has a keyless start but this now won't work with the new key, is this something I can sort out or do I need to have another trip to the dealers?

Keyless go cards have to be programmed to the car and this takes about ½ to 1 hour on STAR,, do take both keys with you

I have added here that you should always carry a normal key,,my SL500 has let me down twice in 2½ years by not recognizing the keyless go card, after a key start it has been fine.

Is that contactless smart card technology? Quite common problems especially interference when I was working with ATM.

No its just the key type

In 2003 the card was done away with and a special key is used,,this still has to be programmed as above
