Folks,

Is it possible to program the auto bootlid on the new E estate so that it doesn't open with a press of the keyfob. It can be very annoying to get back to your car and find that the button has been pressed in your pocket sending the boot up.

We are getting the car next week and want to tell the dealer how to configure the car

TIA

I don't think you can. To be honest I have had these keys since 2001 and have never inadvertantly triggered the boot. It needs to be kept pressed and held for 2-3 seconds before it reacts so accidental activation is highly unlikely. I wouldn't worry about it.

Agree with JBERKS, there should not be a problem. You have to continually hold the button down for 4 secs before boot opens. Almost impossible in your pocket.

Thanks guys. On our BMW it works instantly and has gone off before.

agree with jberks on this, its actually not so easy to trigger the boot, the button needs a "good press" to activate, v unlikely it can be triggered in your pocket

Watch those garage door openers though!

I recently swapped from the big block remotes that you keep in the car to a key ring type. On a couple of occasions I've been washing the car, parked very close to the garage as this is where I keep all the washing gubbins. I've bent down, to wash a rear wheel etc, presumably squashing the keys I've absent mindedly put into my pocket, only to hear the whirr of the motor and have to launch myself at the door before it crashes down on the bonnet! Very scary!

You should fit one of those laser garage door openers to your car, much safer all round.

I was invited to a friends new house in Bedford where he had all of the state of art technoligy. outside half in and half out were the three new cars, and this big triple garage door, as we were talking a small airplane from the local aifield flew over and the ultrasonic door started to close, the brand new Toyota Crown was the furthest out. we just watched as the door broke in half over the car. must have been 19.

Though I have a garage closer on the SL I cant make it work on my door yet.

Can happen even without electics. When I was a kid, we'd recently moved into a new house with a wide garage and hence wide door. My Dad went to get something out of the garage and must have parked closer than normal. As he pulled the door up (had his back to the car), it smashed into the front of his shiny new W123, denting the grill trim and destroying his cherished 25 year old RAC badge. He wasn't a happy bunny!
