Hi all

There are a lot of Mercedes owners (mainly C class and CLK) with cars pulling to the left.

I had this problem from new on a C240 (2000) and have had a struggle to get Mercedes to put it right. It has been to may dealers and to Mercedes HQ. I have constantly been told that it is a ?trait? of the C class, ?It?s normal?, ?It?s road camber? etc.

I was also issued with a leaflet from Mercedes stating that it is a known problem and it?s due to physics!

Well, just to let all of you know that we are not going mad and this problem can be fixed. After a friend had his fixed I decides to give it another go. I gave Mercedes Benz of Newbury the name of a Mercedes HQ Engineer. (Barry Gambrill, DaimlerChrysler Milton Keynes). They contacted him and ordered some ?bolts?

My car is now fixed and absolutely fine. No more pulling to the left. I can let go of the steering wheel and it drives perfectly straight.

So, don?t give up. Get you dealer to call Barry for advice. This problem can be fixed.

There are loads of people with this problem and Mercedes have been absolutely rubbish at delivering any customer satisfaction or support.

Personally, this is the last Mercedes that I will buy

Good Luck

there has been a 'fix' for this for a while now

all they have done is alter the castor on the n/s/f

so u now can go straight BUT it WILL KILL your tyres even quicker now

......But, with respect to Piestore, I can't see how a touch less caster can make a difference to tyre wear, unless camber and toe were not checked at the same time.....but I'd trade any amount of tyre wear for having to tug the steering all day long on an uncambered road. No pleasure in that.

If the tyres were not directional (and even if they were, just to test), I'd have swapped the fronts left for right first as a tyre often gives the problems described. Either M-B got the car right in the first place and a tyre is off spec ("enthusiastically" worn maybe)..... or M-B didn't get it right!

Damn!! In the post just above I wrote a touch "less" caster.....That would be "more" for the left, though I'd have made it less on the right (sorry M-B!) to keep the steering lighter for less shoulder pain in fighting road camber.

I left my new CLK with the dealer for a day for this "problem". The response was:

They had looked at all the technical sources.
They had contacted MB HQ.
They had checked the set up on the relevant testbed.
The alignment/set up was correct.
Pulling left is caused by a combination of road camber, car weight, low profile tyres.
The service manager did seem sincere.

I'm not quite sure where this leaves this topic
