Putting a supercharger on a CLK430?

I have a stock United States CLK430. I was wondering if I can just slap a supercharger from a CLK55 onto it. My friend has a totaled CLK55 and he'll let me get the supercharger for dirt cheap.

I was just wondering if it will work. In addition, I'm a new MB owner myself. I don't know exactly what an AMG package includes. What's the difference between my CLK430 and his CLK55 AMG? Other than the badge, engine size, wheels (maybe, although mine already has AMG wheels for some reason), and a supercharged engine?

Thanks in advance,
Dan

I think if you have to ask you don't have enough idea of how a supercharger works, in theory you could do this, but the managment system would need altering/replacing, gearbox wouldn't be tuned for the extra power etc. etc.etc.the only practical way to do this would be to swap the whole engine, gearbox, cooling system and managment systems from the other car. Possibly there are kits available which include supercharger and ecu mods to suit, wouldn't expect to get results to match the mercedes set up though.

I thought that the CLK55 didn't have a supercharger?

Unless it's a US spec thing?

if the clk body is trashed but mechanically sound, buy the whole car and reshell it from yours. I can't think of a component that would be the same. Brakes, suspension etc the list goes on. Plus the supercharger is designed for a 5.5l and you're banging it onto a 4.3 - stands to reason that the injectors etc will be wrong. Its a hornets next IMO.

As far as I am aware, the only CLK V8 with a supercharger is the very rare CLK AMG DTM of which only 100 hard top and 100 convertible were produced. The CLK55 AMG is a normally aspirated car producing in the region of 355 BHP. There are a lot of Kleemann supercharged CLK's in the United States, and if the car in question is one of these, a complete engine transplant would be your best course of action. Be aware that a conversion of this nature is not a simple undertaking, and professional assistance would be advised, IMO.

Well in that case I think I'll just take it to Brabus. Have you heard anything about them? Are you they a good go? I know they're a little pricey but still.

In addition, what are the actual differences between a 550 and a 55 AMG?

As far as I am aware, the CLK550 uses the new 32 valve V8 with 7 speed auto, and is not an AMG engine. The CLK55 AMG uses the old 24 valve V8 and is 'handbuilt' at the Affalterbach facility on the 'one man, one engine' principal. The power output of the CLK550 is superior to the old AMG, I believe, but of course, to compare apples to apples you need to look at the CLK63 AMG.....

Brabus are a good company. In fact I gather that most of the head honchos at MB drive brabus tuned variants.

The head of my local dealership drives one too. I believe that they only tune engines on already owned cars, as opposed to direct from the factory, if they have limited mileage on them.
