It's happened twice today, my car is starting by itself. The first time I pressed buttons on the fob and it started whilst I was outside of the vehicle, the 2nd time I'd turned ignition off and put something in the boot and it started again, how is this happening? My car fob doesn't have a panic button. It's a c class c220d 2019, I'm puzzled, can anyone shed any light on this? Thanks in advance

So today, 4 or 5 times, my c class c220d 2019 started by itself whilst I was outside the car, the first time I pressed something on the fob, it doesn't have a panic button so I've no idea what I pressed, it also happened whilst I was messing around with the driver side door handle, again when I was opening the boot, this is puzzling me as there's nothing online or in the handbook about this, if somebody could shed some light I'd be very grateful, thanks in advance

Hello and welcome,

That’s a new one, not seen anything like that on the forum before.

Where are you based?

If the car is starting on its own with no pre start input from you, I'd be taking it to a specialist immediately to see what the problem is.
Sounds dangerous to me..

Does the car have Keyless Go fitted?
Could be an issue there. If fitted try removing the Start button (removable on some vehicles).
Do you have any Mercedes Me subscriptions that could trigger this e.g. automatic climate control settings to cool the car down?

Hi all, thankyou for your comments, I'm from Nottingham in the UK yes ... I've come to the conclusion it may be a battery fault in the key fob, I'm going to order a new battery and swap keys in the meantime, I wish I knew how it started by itself though cos its a pretty cool feature to have, how can a low fob battery possibly do this though

Very much doubt a fob battery is the issue as to why the car is starting on its own.
There must be some kind of input of some sort from you when you're holding the key?
Any strange starting incidents with the second key?

In North America you can get remote starters for those with really hard winters. You can stay inside and remotely start your car so it warms up before you leave for work.
Has someone fitted one? Is your car an import?

No the 2nd key is OK, I'm going to try the 1st key again tomorrow, I think the key just needs new battery, perhaps

Welcome, why not swap keys and put the one you have been using away, just incase it is a key problem…
I did that, 2nd key is ok so I'm going to try the 1st key again tomorrow
