Update if anyomne#s interested..

British Gas (my supplier) have a deal running that gives you free Charging (for one year) if you get a charger (has to be a hive one) installed with them.
I decided to go ahead, so await in installetion day.

I wanted to bury the cable under my driveway (about 50 feet of groundwork) but when Dynorod quoted nearly £7 grand, I decided I could put up with lookaing at the exposed cable after all...
7k? The country's gone mad with pricing involving excavation and groundworks! Seems like a good deal with British Gas though. Assume you can only charge off-peak?

I would be STAGGERED if your car didn’t have a “timed charging function - every EV I have ever owned has this?

It will be in the EV menu or charging menu - probably in the same place you set how much current you want the car to pull (you can turn it down if using a 3 pin charger.

I’d read the manual because it must be there somewhere

As I understand it, I can charge any time like, only if it's outside the cheap period (12:00 - 5:00) the rate is about 50p per KWH..... so some form of timer would be highly useful. The Hive charger has a timer, but Iit's a shame that the EQC can't do the timing itself, would same me a few hundred pounds.

I've googled myself to a standstill, (and even read the manual), but it doesn't look like the EQC has a scheduling function. Looks like I'm stuck with paying for the Hive charger, rathere than just a simple high-power mains socket..

I’m sure i could have used the app for timed charging on my old EQC but I never used it as i just plugged it in and let it charge to 80%.

Make sure you get a charger compatible with Octopus Intelligent GO

That way when you are able / ready to change you can get the 7p charge price for "off peak" which if you use the dynamic charging on the charger it will charge whenever it can use cheap rate in addition to the 11:30-5:30am off peak price.

So it "talks" to the charger and allows it to charge the car whenever cheap rate is available - for example mine was charging middle of the day today when I guess their was an excess of Solar in the grid.

Only ever get charged 7p per KWh.

Also all the decent chargers allow you to run a schedule.

Well, I'm a bit committed to the Hive Charger in that I had to sign-up to a deal from the Energy provider (BG) and that runs for a year.

Having said that, the EV time period is "Free" (for a year). but presumably only from Midnight to 5AM.
Not a bad deal, as I can shop around next year., and also run the dish washer, washing machine etc during the free period.

I've ggt a date for the installation, and the only thing I'm losing sleep over is if the cable run to the other side of the house looks as ugly as it sounds.
