Question about the transmission

Hi
My 5 speed auto has 2 modes, Comfort and Sport. I have always used it in the sport mode as it feels more punchier for obvious reasons. However, in the interest of fuel economy I wonder whether the comfort mode will save me fuel and would that be at the expense of the clutch or drive train?
I have tried using it in comfort but have given up due to its sluggishness. I am willing to live with that if it saves a few pennies though.
Thoughts?
Thanks

Sport is also known as Standard. It make little difference to the life of the transmission whichever mode you use. There is no clutch in an auto box.
In Comfort (aka Winter in some models) the car will pull away in second gear (but will kickdown should you floor it) and will change up more quickly (at lower speeds). I have not found any difference in fuel economy. It will also use a lower ratio when reversing.
Comfort / W inter mode is very useful should we ever get any snow!

As whitenemesis who has spelt it out very well, in the S mode the shift points are also higher

Thanks guys.
I did not know that there were two ratios in the reverse gear. Can someone elaborate on that one please.
Once again, many thanks.

My handbook confirms that there are indeed two different reverse ratios, lower geared in "S"....
Can't say I've noticed myself.
