Question for those that might know !

Hi, thinking of buying a december 2004 C270 estate, auto does anyone know if this was made in "the bad period" rumour has it it was, as some folks say they got better after 2005.

I am familier with the engine as I have the same in a Sprinter, also what about the auto box ?

Any usefull replys most wellcome, and thank you in advance !

Dec 04 should be fine - There are exceptions but generally late 99 to mid 04 was the troublesome period (hence I waited and bought a Nov 04). The best C class are post facelift as these had the major changes but anything of that ear should be ok - normal checks withstanding.

The revamped/facelift C-class was available from September 2004 (on a 54plate or newer) like mine. The most visual change is that these have a much nicer looking and better quality interior.

If you are looking for a 2004 C-class then make sure it is one of the revamped models. I would expect a Dec 04 car to be fine.

Don't assume that all 54 plate C-classes are the revamped model - check the interior and you will soon know. The other difference is that the old models (avantguard models) have 4 slats across the middle of the front grille, the revised models have 3 slats across it. Subtle way to tell the difference from the outside.

When you say "major" changes...........what exactly were the changes?
Is there anything anywhere that I can access that lists ALL the differences.
I know of the most obvious ones like the revised dash and clear headlamp covers, but there must be alot more than that.

Thank's fellas, I was not going to reply but feel compelled !

As I said I have various Merc sprinters of various illk's one bieng a 316 that has the 2.7 in.

I can phone the commercial dealers, ( same co as the cars) and give them the vin/reg no, and I can get all the info I require, I am sure I don't have to elaborate !

When I phoned my local car dealer in the south, I was told and I quote " I cant give out any info on that vehicle unless you bring in the following ! Log book in your name, drivers license, utility bill"

I said well I can do it for commercials no prob, it depends on the man he replyed.

I thanked him for basiclly f/all and refraind from telling what I thought of him ! !

Whose rights was it violating to ask for ie damage report. service history when they supplied it new, then sold it to another customer without a service book ?

Like I said to the man I may buy it from, If I get to own it, it will never see the inside of a Merc dealers again, like my vans !

The easiest signs a car is the facelift model is the clear headlights/fog/and smarter mirror repeaters. Aside from this the centre console is smarter and the instrument cluster has three circular displays instead of one large semi circular one and two other each side. Furthermore the facelify has two colourcoded slats in the front bumper (though this is model dependant). Seats are the same, wheels are different style etc.

The mid 2004 facelift made a lot of changes to the suspension and steering - search for 2004 C Class on the usual motoring websites and the road tests are there.

I have an Oct 04 C270CDi estate (my first MB) and (touch wood) I'm very pleased with it.
