Hi All,

My C220 is due an 'A' service in 1600 miles. Should I book this in before or after hitting the service interval?

Either way, it'll be serviced during the next couple of weeks - I was just wondering if running it past the 'limit' would flag anything dodgey in the service history, or make the onboard computer scream at me, or do something silly like force the car into emergency crawl/fault mode...

I'm new to MB and this will be my first service - hence the questions :)

Thanks for the quick response :)

I'm commuting daily between Bristol and Dorchester at the moment - 900 miles a week, so I better get a service booked ... ;)

ooh - what happened there? Is your clock fast, or has the server skipped forward an hour?

Certainly nothing major will happen - it's pretty difficult to hit zero spot on, especially if you do a lot (or very varied) mileage. I don't know if there's a specific rule, but I'd say you shouldn't go more than 1000 miles over.

What you can find (happened to me) is that if the car has done a lot of miles since last service, ot it's been quite a long time, then it could change to a B service as it gets closer. In my case I'd already booked it in for an A and asked them to only do an A - didn't seem to be an issue.

I booked mine in with 900 miles left to go based on a guess on how long it would take me to do those 900 miles. i.e I booked it for a date about 3 weeks away. When it went in it was 100 miles over the top. The last sevice was 900 miles over (previous owner, not me). I think as long as you are failry close they dont mind.

It all kind of depends on how many miles you do.

The computer does get the arse though. When you go over the limit it comes up telling you that you are over the limit and stays on progressively longer and longer so when you select a different menu option it just pops but to the service one. Very anoying. Mind you 1600 miles is way under. I wouldn't get it done any less than a couple of hundred miles before it's due at the earliest

I almost always have the services done early, up to 4,500 miles in some cases. I'm just nice to my car that way :)
One thing to ponder is that the mechanic writes in the service book if the service was over due and if so by how many miles. They also write if the service was performed early and by how many miles. Now this may not bother you but I would be looking through the service book of any prospective purchase and thinking that if the owner always serviced late was he really looking after the car ???
