R-Class Roof Rack/Rails

Hi Guys
I need a little advice here I have a 2009 R-Class which has nothing on the roof just covers X3 each side when you open them there is a threaded screw hole which I’m presuming is to to retain a roof rack/rail.

Are these to attach roof rail to, which you then attach roof bars to? Or can you buy roof bars which which would fit into these fitting

Thule make the OEM MB bars and are a modular system that has all sorts of accessories and holders for bikes, skis, snowboards, boxes etc. Once you have a set of bars and foot kit you never dispose of them as you can always get adaptors to fit anything.

Also, if you go forward get keyed alike so you only have 1 key for everything.

Often Gumtree or e-bay bring up bargains. eg my Wing Bars were £50 bnib vs £98. eg:

I have been using Thule kit since the late 70's when I was a Team GB Youth paddler carrying kayaks all over the UK and Europe. I have loads of Thule parts that enable fitment to almost anything.

i got real lucky roof bars for my w166 rails £ 22.95 in aldi. look sturdy enough. good for 55kg they say. two types one 135cm /125 cm
