First ... hello from a recent 300SL 1989 purchaser ... my card is behind the metaphorical bar!

Driving for the first time in the dark, I have no lighting behind the heater controls and the gear selector? I assume there should be?! I'll check fuses etc. but I'm guessing that a bulb has gone or that a connection has come adrift? How easy is it to get behind this console, and how should I do this?

Many Thanks,

Tim

not just one bulb

there are a bulb each for the slider controls, one for the rotary switch, and one for the auto box display. More likely you have a loose connection to the output from the rheostat in the dash. Do your electric window switches and heated rear screen and interior light switches light up as well? If not, this is where i would look, after checking the fuses. Book your osteopath appointment now.
Getting behind the centre console isn't that bad, behind the dash board is a steering wheel off odyssey into the unknown. Let us knwo whether the fuse thing works, and we'll give you tips on the next bits.

Welcome aboard btw.

Thanks!
Checked today (whilst having a new radio fitted) and found that the bulbs had all gone!

Really enjoying the 300SL ... bought it for the girlfriend, but I'm trying to use it as much as I can! :D
