R129 (1999) Light Switch

When switching the lights on the illumination of the switch/surround does not come on (R129), can anyone please advise hwhat to check and how to remove the switch. All other dash lights/illuminations work except the ones for the switch itself. The ignition switch was recently replaced (see my previous thread) if this helps.

Did it ever light?
Not sure about the 129, but aside from my 210, no merc I've ever owned had this switch illuminated, including my current one. It looks like it should, but they don't.

Yes, it did, it sometimes works if it get's a good thump (just like the wife), but recently that doesn't work either (the light that is!).

Just pull the knob off - there's a bulb behind it.

Ugh, why didn't I think of that - had tried, but didn't want to force it, mind you, it took a pair of pliers and a protector rag.
