Guy's,
I really need your help to find the cause of my fuse 6 always blowing. Context: 500 SL 1992 (european). Fuse 6 = relay left safety package, backup lamp, horn, power soft top control unit ( fan fare horns, outside temp guage.
So when did this begin ? A few weeks ago I decided to replace my dashboard with a new (second hand) dashboard as mine was scratched. I followed some youtube instructions and a few evenings later: job done....
...until I connect my battery and then after contact, fuse 6 blows imediately (so after turning contact key on).
After some debugging, I found out that this happens when my steering wheel (when putting it back) makes connection to the steering column. At first I thought that it was the indicator stalk unit that all of a sudden was causing this, because when I disconnect this unit from its connection (connectors located under the dashboard/steering wheel) and putting back the steering wheel, the short circuit disapeared. So I replaced the indicator stalk unit with another one...but no luck, still short circuit.
So now I'm out of options and need some help to start looking for the real problem. There must be somewhere a signal on the steering column that shouldn't be there (i suppose) and that creates this short circuit via the indicator stalk. So I was thinking that I should first start to look for where this signal comes from ?
What are your thought/ideas on where to start ?
thanks !
Filip
