Hi all,

planning on doing lots of work tomorrow to our R129 (oil service + front discs and pads) plus some prep work for under sealing.
I need to put the car up on axle stands on all 4 corners so the car is completely off the ground I’ve never done this before only ever front or the rears I’ve done.
what’s the best place to put them on these cars and is there anything I should be really careful of other than the usual health and safety?
and also is it safe to be left for a period of time as the under sealing isn’t going to be done for a week or so.
And yes the car is being dry stored in a warm level factory under a car cover so the conditions are good.
Any advice would be great!

At the rear you can jack under the differential and put stands under the jacking points.
At the front there is a jacking pad under the plastic undertray.

Lift on that and support using stands under the jacking points on the sides. If you remove wheels I strongly suggest they be put under the car. Be aware that it's not difficult to push a car off axle stands if you aren't careful.

Thanks for that, just thought I would check before I did anything, so the car should be okay on axle stands for a few weeks as long as the wheels are positioned underneath?

I would slacken the wheel bolts before lifting it, but leave the wheels on until it is supported on the four axle stands.

I almost dropped mine as the rear axle stands began to tip backwards when I was lifting the front.
Well balanced machine but heavy..

I would try & keep the rear on the ground for as long as possible. As others have said axle stands on all for corners are not very stable.

Done oil and filter brake pad pins were so poorly corroded I’ve had to order some new ones they should be here on Wednesday ready to fit new pads next weekend.
I also noticed the boot on top of the shock absorbers had completely worn out and was just hanging out loose on both sides, does this mean it’s probably worth changing the shock absorbers and top mounts? It’ll be straight in for it’s MOT after all the works been done want to make make sure it passes!

No need to change struts unless they are failing or leaking.
Top strut mount us a good idea as they are known to regularly fail. Very easy to do and can be changed without removing springs or struts.
