The ADS suspension has developed a leak on the pressure line to the accumulator at the rear, so right now the car looks like a dragster or drift car with the rear down low and the wheels having some very unusual camber angles.

I have bought a new line, however upon investigation there is no way the line can be fitted without dropping the rear subframe which it is routed over.

Anyone have any tips/tricks/experience at removing or lowering the rear subframe on a R129? Is it something I should attempt on the driveway, or am I stuck with trusting my luck to a independent? I have lots of axle stands, very good ramps, multiple trolley jacks and far too many tools, right now it's a confidence issue before I start coating everything with plus gas and start undoing large bolts etc....

Hi Malcolm,

I have been researching, and I am convinced I can do it myself.

It's just a matter of confidence starting the job, and deep pockets to buy all the parts I will overhaul during the process, i.e. all suspension, brake & fuel lines. New hydropneumatic rear struts, new subframe bushes and propshaft flexdisc, and to top it all it will bring forward the purchase a new rear/middle exhaust section.

Currently the bill stands around £1500, so I will be saving and purchasing parts over the winter, and will probably do the job in the Spring.

So, I need to find somewhere who will give me a decent discount i.e. more than 10% if I am ordering such a large amount of parts? Any ideas?

What I would really like is for someone who has dropped a subframe on a W140/W124/R129 to chip in with any handy hints/tips/gotchas. Had some feedback, but not much....:(

WIS is ok, but it's all a bit by the book, rather than practical experience.

Richard

A dealer might give you 15-25% depending on the part, the size of your order, and how you approach them

As the 129 is essentially a 124 underneath (so I am led to believe) I'd recommend replacing the diff bushes while you're under there
