Hi

I have an annoying drip when it rains coming from the rubber above the passenger side window where it meets the roof corner. At the moment I have the winter hardtop on but I assume I will have a similar problem with the soft top because an indie Merc specialist suggested that it was caused by the the windscreen seal and to rectify it would be £300 for the new seal and 4 hours labour so £620 in total!

Not saying they are wrong but I can not get my head around that cost. Anyone had a similar experience or any thoughts?

Thanks

Rob

My 129 leaks with the hardtop but not the soft top.

Not sure I can see how it can be the windscreen seal? Does he mean the A pillar window seal?

Try smothering the top seal across the windscreen with silicon grease. A smear on the A pillar one may help too (don't over do it or you'll be cleaning it off the window glass for weeks).

If you don't mind the cost use Krytox on the window seal instead of silicon grease. Probably more effective and less prone to smear but a lot more money.

Thanks LostKiwi.

I have not taken off the hardtop to see if I have the same problem with the softtop.

Seperately someone recommended Liqui Moly Gummi-Pflege, is that the sort of thing you have in mind? The garage I visited def said windscreen seal, I think it wraps all around hence the 4 hours work quoted to replace!

Crazy amount of money for a small problem but those tiny drops coming from the rubber seal sure mount up over the course of these wet and windy nights.

Thanks foxhat.

Can I just check what you mean by "seat it correctly"? For various reasons it has been a long time since the hard top has been off but I thought that once those clever german hydraullics kick in and grab the hard top down there would be little room for manoeuvre?

Hi Mark

Well mine has just arrived in a tiny bottle, courtesy of Amazon, with german writing on and no clear instructions how to use it.

It has a sponge on the end so I assume I am just dubbing it on the rubbers as if I were cleaning shoes?

exactly that, push in firmly on first use to pierce it the fluid then flows into sponge. Go over any/all rubber seals, top of screen etc. it’s really good.
also good for door seals/windows :)

Perhaps take it off and treat the seals if you can . Better to do this on a warm day and leave it for a few hours so that it can do its job, but being the season it is, unless you have a garage..
When I place my hard top on I just gently “wiggle” it in the hope that it will find its best or right place before the good ole German hydraulics do their job of pulling it on.
