Roof does not work, red light on roof button glows red permanently and roll bar switch illuminated all the time, windows appear not to close properly. Any info would be gratefully received. Also what sizes are standard MB speakers in the car from new, need to change but not sure of sizes.

Did this just happen or has the battery gone flat at some point in time

Thanks for reply, the battery is fine I bought the car about 3 months ago and it was bust when I got it , the dealer promised to sort but has since changed his mind, someone said its the roof module, Mercedes quoted over £1000 for this part so I hope its something else but am unsure how to test/check the module, I have been ford owner all my life and other motors non merc, i love the SL but know absoluteley nothing about them!. I dont even know where the module is housed!!

Time is short this week end and you will probably need to get the fault codes read out.

To re set it all

Hold the window buttons in the up mode with the ign set to 2 for 10 secs after they have closed.

Do the same with the rollbar hold the switch in either direction to see if it engages, does the roof switch blink, if it does its telling you a code.

There are many parts to this including the roll switches, on early cars they are on the axle, later ones have them in the rear of the arm rest box.

It is an endless list, but I can respond further next week

Hi Malcolm, tried your suggestion, but no change or bleeps or anything. Took to garage that specializes in Mercs, he reckons its the roof control module, to buy its £1020 not inc vat and 3 hours labour to fit at £60 an hour. Not a happy bunny! thanks for advice anyway. Rob

Hi rob, had my roof module go early this year, after jump starting car (do not do this causes all sorts of problems) sent the module off to be re-furbed, cost just short of £300will post name and address where i sent as soon as i find it again. as a point when mine went the roll bar would not work either. Dont think its 3 hrs labour as i remember it is located under rear seat with 2 or 3 connectors dependant on year, maybe reprogramming takes a while but i cant see it.

How come the dealer changed his mind about fixing it?

hi rob try BBA REMAN they are in rochester , kent tel. 01634230055, they recond mine took about a week including sending and getting back, sometimes they may have exchange units available. easy to remove the roof ecu it is located under the rear passenger seats, a couple of bolts and 2 or 3 cables to remove. when refitted not sure if it needs re-setting or you just do the window re-set, sure somebody will confirm that...

Its bad luck if it is the roof module,,I do not think that the OVP relay in the boot has a blown fuse, worth a look

The only re sets are the windows ESP and the roll bar

roof fixed now £1800 inc vat, dealer went bust just after I bought so all promises he made out the window, warranty is a con as well! If you ever have to get warranty double check everything.
