I've just bought some AMG 10 x 18" (R) and 8.5" x 18" (F) wheels with 275/35/18 and 245/40/18 tyres. I know these were an original option on the R129 but can't find any recommended tyre pressures. Can any body help

This applies to all cars, the pressures stay the same even if you change the spec of the wheels and tyres. The 129 stated pressures worked fine in my 129 with any wheels and tyres.

IF your running 35 and 40 section tyres you had better put in a bit more air if you are driving in the UK IF you want to keep your wheels round and straight while driving on our typically poorly maintained roads. I cant remember what i put mine up to but for sure it was another 5 PSI or thereabouts it has of course helped my F/C going from 21 MPG to 24 MPG if i dont go wild too often :D

Though I said that all tyre manufactures say you keep the same pressure in the first post, in practice I always used the fully laden table. As Flying Scott says our roads and 35-40 tyres do not mix, and it does improve the rolling ressistance.

i have 245x40x18 on the front and 265x35x18 on the back of my e classs. I spent a lot of time on the phone to tyre makers and was told 36 all round. The problem if not correct is bad mpg and also uneven wear on your tyres.

It also effect the handling, I have followed a few cars recently where one rear tyres has been half deflated, its an offence now to be driving on the incorrect pressures.

Just to briefly resurrect this topic for a moment, could anyone tell me what the correct tyre widths should be on the AMG wheels on our SL?

The rims seems to stand proud of the tyres (particularly on the rear) by some margin and this makes the wheels very vulnerable to kerbing. I may have tyres fitted which are too thin, but I don't have the cars' user manual to confirm or deny this.

Thanks Malcolm, looking at the list I should have:

Front - 245/40 R18
Rear - 275/35 R18

....and I actually have 235s on the front and 265s on the rear, (all Pirelli P Zero) so slightly different, would this make a great deal of difference?

Jonathan.
