Hi All.

Bit of a funny one this, haven't operated the roof for a few weeks, and come to do it today and the roof will not move at all.
When you operate the switch not a thing happens. No noise from the hydraulics, no red light (flashing or otherwise) on the switch either.
Also the normal double click of the switch in either direction to make both windows go up or down in unison, doesn't work.

To me it is either a relay, fuse or (most likely I think) the interior switch itself.

I cannot find the relay or the fuse, so as yet haven't checked them.

The roof operated flawlessly until I tried it today. Don't think it is a mechanical problem, as there is no sounds no lights, nothing.

I don't know if this is related either, but bizarrely, the indicators don't appear to be operating as normal either. They seem to flash quicker, almost like a bulb is gone, but they are all working.

I might be going mad on that point, but it is strange I notice both these things at the same time.

All other electrics etc are working perfectly.

Anyway, if anyone has any ideas or things to try/tips re the roof problem, I am eager to hear them.

Thanks in advance all,
Dan.

Don't think it is the roll out cover - that would make the switch flash. I would agree with the possibility of a fuse out. Will have a bit of a look, see what I can find...

There is a relay next to the pump in the RH side of the boot, but I think this is only to switch the pump itself, and will not hold off the switch illumination. I will check the fuse layout and report back...

Thanks for taking time out to try to find a remedy Uncle Benz.
Most kind. :)

Turns out it was indeed a fuse, No.7 in the engine bay fuse box.

It had blown in such a way that to the eye it looked intact. It was only when it was electrically tested by my local tech (Mercedes trained but working at an independant just round the corner from me; Very handy indeed!) that it was found to be defective.
One new fuse later and all is back to normal, including, bizarrely, the indicators!!

Anyway, thanks for your time again all who replied. Much appreciated.

Cheers,
Dan.

Pleased for you Dan, re fuses sometimes the are not stamped correctly and they can fail through no fault other than within themselves.

Good one :D

Hi Malcolm.

I checked them all twice and couldn't see any breaks in the fuses.
My tech said that when he tested the fuse with the ignition off, it showed earth on both sides as you would expect, but with the ignition only one side showed live.
He replaced the fuse and all was well again. Kind of gutted I didn't spot it as it would have saved me a few readies.
However they charged me less than 1/2 an hours main stealer labour rate for the whole job and the car was there all day AND it received a quality wash!
Can't really complain as I know a trip to the stealers would have cost me around 200 notes and all for a fuse and some 'diagnosis'.

Cheers.
