Started a thread for mine rather than post on the other subframe threads

I noticed the below hole when changing the rear suspension - it wasn’t that obvious until I tapped it with a screwdriver…

IMG_3179.jpeg IMG_3180.jpeg

I booked it in with Mercedes - advised of £162 diagnostic fee (payable if Mercedes won’t cover it under warranty).

It is booked for Monday, but as I’m having surgery Friday I dropped it off yesterday afternoon.

Just had a call back as they’ve looked at it early, “yes” it is unsafe, they’ve now raised a case with Mercedes and are awaiting the outcome.

Fingers crossed that it’s approved.

I bought it from Mercedes just over 5 years ago, it’s been serviced to Mercedes specification since I’ve had it (at specialists with access to the Mercedes online service system) so lots of positives.

I could do with some good luck…

Hope you get it approved. This is becoming far too common unfortunately MB certainly need to up their game it’s easy enough to deal with surface rust but when It’s down to poor factory cavity anti-rust treatment there is very little an owner can do about it

Good luck with the surgery Friday Russ.
Thanks Roger, I’ve rather a lot going on right now and the SLK is probably the least of it. “Things are sent to try us” as they say…

Mercedes called me back Friday saying there was an update… they didn’t say what it was though…. I was otherwise detained in hospiddiddle so called them back today…

Mercedes have authorised the repair :):):):)

On EPC when ordering the rear suspension carrier (as they call it) there’s 4 rivets and an electrical wiring harness that also has to be ordered. All that’s covered. Other bolts and brackets might not be - if suspension arms or bushes are seized etc. having just replaced the springs and shocks I know they’re good - there are some bushes that are worn and there has been a note about rear brake lines. I’ll get done what it needs.

Really happy I managed to get it in before I went to Hospital - I also SORN’d it on Saturday so not spending ~£30+ for VED for a month and MB are looking after it :)

Nice to have a +ve :)

Hope it's not long until you're back and pedalling that generator for the site as it looks like it needs your expertise and energy:rolleyes:

Had a call from MB this afternoon - subframe arrived and they’re on with replacing it - a few bushes/bolts require replacing which MB won’t cover - I could argue but they’re ~£77 for the parts so I’m not inclined to make a fuss.
They’ve not mentioned the brake lines, I’ve asked them to check them over though whilst the subframe is out.

That looks like a great result especially if you are keeping the car for a few years no more worries and a nice new subframe to admire:)

Had a call and my SLK is fixed :)

They’ve advised the brake pipes are fine :)

They said rear tyres are at 1.9mm (which I knew about - getting winter wheels out on when I get it back so will shop around for 2 new hoops)

Slightly concerning  is that the gearbox sump cover is badly corroded and needs replacement. Advised on £695 to do that job, called my local indie who’ll do it for ~half (including gearbox service) so once I get it back I’ll get it booked in with them.

Today Mercedes delivered it back to me with a new subframe :)

Had a few bushes and bolts I had to pay for - £116.54 in total which I could probably argue with Mercedes over - although I don't see it as worth it and happy that it's been done - once I can get mobile again I'll fill it with ACF-50 and have a look at the gearbox sump

Something well worth looking forward to getting behind the wheel of again. Happy motoring:)

Excellent, i trust i have a positive result. I am sure they don't expect me, a woman to be armed with all this info. So thanks much appreciated.

If your dealer won’t submit it go to another one for an assessment and warranty
