Are the rear light units on an R171 200 kompressor LED or lamps because I have a rear brake light malfunction, but the lights all appear to work.
I can only find two bulbs in the back of the unit, indicator and reverse lamp?
Help please.
My CLC is far less troublesome..

Clean the bulbs up, probably a slight resistance in the connection that’s triggering the warning.
LED in the 3rd light, normal bulbs in rest

whip the unit out / bulb holders and have a look. You will have to anyway to resolve the issue.

Take the bulbs out, make sure the contacts are clean/good and reinsert. Make sure the bulb glass is clean when reinserting. Bayonet bulbs do wear down on the contacts.

MB bulbs last forever. I have only replaced headlamp bulbs on my W220 (once in 18 years) and a brake lamp bulb in my W251 (12 years).

is the car now using another pair of lamps due to one of the normal brakes lights having failed? That's what my R Class would do ... the message was along the lines of 'back up lights in use' (back up as in stand-by ... not reverse)
