When I bought my SLK with 17" rims it had horrible Hankook tyres on it, very stiff sidewalls, crashy clunky ride, but lots of tread especially the rears. Couple of years ago I swopped the front 225/45's for Goodyear Efficientgrip Performance which made the front much nicer, yesterday I finally swopped the rears for Yokahama Advan Fleva V710 95W XL 245/40's, what a difference!! (EU rating C A 68Db). Car is softer, quieter yet feels totally planted on the road, potholes etc as still felt but not crashy, roof up or down car is noticably quieter. The 968 coupe I bought in 1998 came from the factory on Yokahamas which were grippy but wore out fairly quickly, went through 2 sets of rears in about 30k miles (24k and 1 set of which was first owner) so wonder whether these will be the same - but as I've done only 3k miles in the past 2 years in the SLK (need to get her out more!!) I'm not bothered ATM, the pair were £247 supplied and fitted by F1 Autocentre.
