Thought I would see if the plate R172 SLK was available, MOT History has it listed on a Ford Mondeo MOT Expired September 2009, registered 24th October, 1997.

R171 SLK was registered 24th October, 1997 as well and MOT ran out Feb 2007.

R170 SLK was registered same day again 24th October, 1997 and no MOT details.

They were all registered same day as, of course, the numbers run consecutively...

Only problem with car specific plates is that they’re useless to you when you sell it
