Afetrnoon folks

My ill fated R230 is giving me yet more greif

The problem seems a common one but I'm not familair with this car enough yet...

I've lost vacuum to the locks, etc. and its blowing fuse 58. So I assume the pump has gone caput !!

But before I go down that road, is there something simpler that could cuase that fuse to blow ? If I do need to replace the pump/unit is it a fairly simple process and is there a thread on it on here ??

Thanks

PS: My R129 now seems like it was a reliable car !!

R129s are a lot simpler.....

Your diagnostics is probably correct.
The usual cause is water soaking into the foam surrounding the pump which then leaks into the pump eventually killing it. You may be lucky and simply have a broken vane in the pump jamming it but will need to pull it apart to find that (repair kits on eBay).
To get out is easy enough. Just unbolt the roof pump frame and carefully move it out the way. Then you can get to the PSE pump to remove it. Can't remember how the air lines connect but if it's the same as a 129 a 10mm open end spanner to lever the connectors works well. Just label where everything came from first!

Thanks, I'm pretty sure I'm one of the lucky ones as the boot floor has always been bone dry, no sign of previous wetness either but I'll not take anything for granted just yet. Just had the carpet and foam covers off, all dry. But the vane suggestion is an excellent one !! So tomorrows job is to get it out and see from there.

I could do with a simple fix, the other issue on this car are all expensive !! lol

Might be worth checking the stupid plastic boot locking mechanism which cracks and leaks. Apparently causes the pump to run on and blows the fuse.

Well it all came apart this morning and low and behold, the turbine wheel has disintigrated just as suggested, so replacement now on order. On to the next problem ! lol
