Hi folks.

I've been trying to work through a problem with my wife's R230 SL500.

After a few months of not being driven, the central locking and all usual vacuum peripherals stopped working, so I stripped the PSE pump and sure enough the impeller blades had shattered.

So no problem, I saw the motor had burnt out so I got a replacement motor and impeller and was glad to fix the PSE issues and the seats, central locking and boot soft close started working again.

However, even though the boot now shuts no problem it can only be opened by the manual key and not the remote key or the release button on the drivers side door - it's as if the vacuum to shut the boot is working but the release is not - i tested this by taking out the mechanical locking mechanism, and when i push the teeth they shut but I can't get them to re open unless i use force.

Any suggestions where to look? i have glued the ball bearing ports on the mechanical lock, that doesn't seem to have made any difference (thought it might be a vacuum leak.)

When you rebuilt the pump did you check operating pressures? There a good YouTube video about this.

to be honest I bought a new motor with impeller already on - the doors and seat controls, basically all the vacuum functions work ok - just not the boot release.

Boot release requires more pressure than door release - it may the pump isn't getting to the required pressure.

Could there be a leak on the lock itself, i dont think i put any glue on the diaphragm(s) - is there one for boot lock and another for release?

The pump is good, the highest pressure requirement is to pull the boot shut, the boot unlock requires the same pressure as the doors.
The boot release works by the PSE pump sending pressure AND a 12V signal to the valve (Y65/3) in the latch, the pressure then goes to the black "puck" in the latch to release the boot. see attached schematic.
So check that out to see where the problem is. The connector , X8/4, is the one to the rear of the PSE frame.
Check the BOTH small electrical plugs are connected to the latch.
The pump should run and the puck should operate, you can test the lock with the boot open by pushing on the pawl in the latch, it will then rotate the pawl more as it does to pull down the boot, watch your fingers!

Good luck
