The parking brake is getting difficult to release. Dealer sorted it briefly after service in September but didn't charge for it so suspect they just blew off some dust and did a bit of lubrication. Now it's a bad as before.

Is there any obvious trouble spot to look at or do I have to go through the whole system? Grateful to anyone who has been here before.

I just lift the foot pedal with my left toe simultaneously with releasing the hand lever......second nature after over nine years.

You just need to go underneath and lubricate the eaqualizer its towards the diff under a cover

Lifting the pedal rings a bell as it does feel as though it may be jamming down. There was a post recently about a plastic insert that created the "ratchet noise" on the parking brake - I think that was on a W124 but is there something similar on the R230 as there are now no "clicks" as I depress the pedal?

And I'll have a look at the equaliser when it gets a bit less brass monkeys out there.

    Thanks for help.

The plastic thing is only for the sound, lubricating it will solve it,,, its not easy tro get to but you can get near enough to squirt some WD40 on it

The clicking sound is used to determine the correct adjustment of the parking brake

Just tried lifting the pedal with my foot as recommended, worked instantly. Does that infer it is the pedal release sticking or is it all controlled elsewhere?

Television, when you referred to lubrication in your last post, did you mean lubricating the pedal (or its pivot/sprigs etc) or the the equaliser?

It will be the equalizer right back near the diff with a U shaped cover over it that need oiling.

If you can hang on a few days I can send you the drawings on where it is.

Thanks for the offer of drawings but I think I can find it. Won't be looking for a while until it gets warm enough for grovelling under cars again and Mic's suggestion of lifting the pedal works well and takes the urgency away.

    Thanks again.
