Zero chance that the UK will get extended warranty.
The US, with their liking for litigation seem to be priority customers.

Unless we are talking a completely re-engineered sbc unit this does not make sense. The design lifespan of an sbc unit is circa 125k miles depending on usage........not time related.
Maybe the US are prepared to replace the units foc during the initial 25 years from first registration?

Jury trials and exemplary/punitive damages tend to focus the wrongdoers mind a bit more than Judge only awards here.
But why not make MB sit up a bit if the there is an award of $200M against them? (weedkiller springs to mind)

And that, of course, is why they have extended the warranty

reading the US threads indicate a mixture of replacement and s/w flash.

I have a 2004 SL350 with only 54000 miles on it and after a software update (I mean on the way home) a warning light came on and it is the sbc pump.

Does anyone think Mercedes would help with cost given my low miles and the USA warranty situation. Incidentally MB USA extended the sbc pump warranty in Nov 1986 to 10 years and unlimited mileage!

Hmmm. Ten years warranty so 2014. No chance.

To fail that early its been used as a town car - its actuations not mileage that kills them.

I'm sure you mistyped 1986 as well as SBC didn't exist back then.

You guys were all right, no chance of warranty repair, however, I had them going for a while and was getting hopeful, what ended it was Mercedes noticed that two of the services had been by independents rather that authorised MB garage.

I am following up a lead on a guy who claims to be able to lift the limit on pedal depressions and bring the sbc back on, will report back although dubious

MB indies with Star can do this if certain fault codes are present. IIRC C249F was the code that allowed the limit to be reset.

Yes he does John. I keep forgetting about his service. I think the message has to be in grey, not red though. Again, the fault code will confirm if it can be repaired/ reset.
If the OP's indy removes the SBC pump and sends it to https://www.ecu-repair.co.uk/product-page/sbc-pump-refurbish-service-by-post, that should save buying new.
Indeed.

To explain better the refurbishment procedure, the work includes a 6 months warranty (for replacement pumps aswell) and further assistance. Most of the times the mecahnics are a bit stuck with bleeding procedure but i am explaining the procedure properly and make sure the customer's car is back on the road.

If the repair is not possible (rare cases), then i replace the pump with a refurbished and tested one at no extra cost.

Based on my experience, they ussualy fail because of the load and amont of brake usage rather than high mileage.

Cheers!
