Good Morning,
I am trying to get a definitive answer as to whether replacing the Voice Control Module will require “coding” to the car in Star. My car is an early R230 (March 2002) with the D2B fibre optics.
I have purchased and fitted a new “old stock” replacement VCM with an identical part number and it does not appear to work - there is no “blink” from the unit, but there is power to the multi-pin plug. There is no sound from the radio etc and code N1112 A (active) is shown in the COMAND hidden menu. When a bypass connector is fitted in place of the VCM, the sound returns and the status of code N1112 changes to P (previous/past). I have Icarsoft and with the VCM in place I can see an active CAN fault but that changes to historical with the bypass plug in place. There are no other CAN faults shown.
I have asked my local dealer and they say that they cannot tell whether coding of the new module is necessary until it is plugged in to Star. I have previously replaced a blown Bose amp in a different D2B car and that was plug and play, hence my query regarding the coding.
I also wonder if there may be an issue with the module receiving a wake-up signal.
Any help or guidance would be much appreciated.
Many thanks
David
