These are my current wheels which Malcolm rightly pointed out, make the car look a little dated now.

http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...skius/side.jpg

Whilst booking in to have my vario roof problem sorted, I noticed the wheels on the showroom models tended to fill the arches better (and look stunning). I'm assuming they are 19 inch or perhaps 20 inch?

Assuming I have any money left after the roof is fixed I'm going to see about getting a newer set of wheels.

Has anyone any views on fitting 3rd party Alloys for example from Project Khan/Carlsson. They look very nice but seem quite pricey. My initial feeling is to stick to MB.

I've had a quick trawl through ebay the prices are a lot more attractive but of course generally speaking we are talking second hand. A lot of the current crop seem quite battered about.

Does anyone know of a good website that shows the Mercedes wheel options and their prices for comparison?

Thanks

Next time you are in the dealer pick up the AMG Optional Extras and Accessories Brochure and the Mercedes-Benz light alloy wheels Brochure.
You can also see quite a few on the Mercedes Passenger Car Website.

I bought mine from Ebay they are late SL600 wheels, my main requirements were looks, easy to clean.

After market are OK as long as they are made for MB. Even with the last 129 after months of looking and searching I kept to MB, that way you cant go wrong. These car giants pay out millions to have these things designed to look right, put the wrong ones on and they stick out like a sore thumb

Standard were 17" that went to 18" now options are 19" and 20"

No I have 18" I find that the car runs nicer on 18" rather than the 17" too much lateral movement, the 19" start gettin a bit on the hard ride side, I have seen 21" in the USA, not a tyre really, just a rubber band.

21 inch that's one to impress the ladies!

I like the look of the 19 inch wheels but like you say I supppose the ride would suffer a little. I'll take a look at the options tomorrow.

The ABC suspension masks a lot, ask for a ride in the demo SL if it has 19", the one down here has 19"

These are the ones that are the in thing in the USA on all of the SLs, you could change the front grill to an AMG new look 3 slat and £295 in Black and your car would look like the latest model. I am changing my grill

They are oem on the SL65AMG but MB approved for all R230. It'll be impossible for Welski's budget at an MB dealer (£4124rrp for rims only!) but I know a place selling them with new Pirelli tyres for around his budget (not being coy, will have to check forum rules on a few things)

Thanks for the info Chris.

That's kind of what I thought re main dealer prices. I suspected I might need to find either second hand or a third party outlet.

They wouldnt be my first choice of wheel but they are rather nice, do you know where I could find any pictures with the wheels on a car?

Not that I mind buying stuff off here (Navigation Disc etc) but do you work for/own the company selling the wheels Chris?

The one in the background?

Of the two I was initially leaning towards something like the set on the right but after seeing them side by side, the set you suggested actually look rather smart. I would think they are probably a lot easier to keep clean as well!
