Nice day and I’d bought the discs and pads last month so front brake service for my Smart R451 CDI.

Wheels chocked, jacked up, axel stand and wheel under the car in case the jack decided to drop.

(£21.34 for a pair of genuine Brembo discs…:cool: and £30.72 for the 4 Brembo brake pads - from GSF)

13mm spanner to remove the calliper and 18mm socket to remove the pad carrier. Inner brake pad rusted into the pad carrier…

Wearing slightly unevenly as well…

Back of the pad was rusted to the piston (I’m fairly sure they’re original pads as I’ve never changed prior to today (12 years and 59k miles…)

Cleaned up the backing plate and disc carrier

With the aid of my plastic clamps calliper pushed back and excess brake fluid taken out.

Measured the old discs - 8.51mm drivers side and 8.50mm passenger side - quite happy that they were wearing so similarly - 8mm is minimum so almost had my moneys worth…;)

Measured the new ones at 9.75mm

More “tough black”

New pads installed with a wipe of copper grease on the mating surfaces.

Passenger side complete - discs all cleaned up with brake cleaner

Always surprised at how many tools and stuff you end up using…

I've bought the pads ready to do mine when the weather gets a bit better. I've yet to decide if it needs discs though. ;)

Friday afternoon at work I got the message that I had a flat tyre .... so I scratted around to find a jack & 15mm deep socket. Took it to a local tyre place who gave the tyre its last rites .... I knew it was on its last legs, but didn't realise it was quite that bad . £30 later & a part worn 'new' tyre fitted I could now get home later in the day.
My mission for this week is at least 2 tyres for the front .... & probably 2 for the back.

At £21.34 I couldn’t really go past them… yes I’ve lost out on 0.5mm of disc wear, I can (just about) live with that…:oops:
