This is my first thread on this forum so please bear with me.

I have a mercedes CLK 200 sport petrol 1999. I am having a problem with radiator fan. What happen was, that I was driving the car, abit fast and the car infront suddenly stopped. I put the break and the ABS kicks in and stopped the car. Everything was working fine uptill then. Then suddenly the radiator light in the dash board come on. I stopped the car and top up the water in the radiator. It didn't took that much water you can say less than half a jug. I checked the light and it was still on. Anyway I started driving again and then eventually the light went off. I checked for water leak, there is none. When the radiator light came on the car temperture was normal and is still normal when I drive the car. It never went above normal at any time.

Now whats happening is that when I turn off the engine after like 2 seconds the radiator fan comes on in full speed. It drained my car battery last night as well and as soon as I turn on the car the fan went off. What I am doing right now is when I park my car I unplug the radiator fan connector so I won't drain the battery again.

Anyone have any idea why its happening. Need help please.

Welcome to the site, have you checked that you havent got water in the fan control module plug, this runs on PWM from the engine control unit, sounds like you have water ingress sir!!

Thanks Sam. No I haven't checked the fan control module plug. Do you have any idea where about this module plug is located. What my Mechanic suggest that it might be radiator fan switch but he is not sure.

One reason for this is, water leakage in the fuse box with 2 lids. this causes a short circuit between SAM and other components. You need to lift the SAM and dry it and clean the contact and fit the 2 new lids for that box

Small A202 545 13 03
Large A202 545 00 03

When the fan runs with the ignition on all of the time then its as SAM said the connector box behind the bumper passenger side

Just pulled it up, ok yes i was wrong, still not the same SAMs we use nowdays, but you are correct!

These things are not important,,the main thing is that you know that I have used a MB paper, and for future reference I will make it clear that I have, then we talk the same language

Hi,

Thank everyone for your replies. Just to update you guys about radiator fan problem. What happened was that I had this problem over the weekend and there was no workshop open. I didn't get the chance to get it checked as everyone is fully booked until new years. Now I have noticed that the fan stops running when I turn off the car. It seems like the my car have cured itself. The service is due on my car so I was thinking to get it checked when I send my car for service. I just want to know if its save to drive my car. I mean there is nothing wrong with it now. It drives fine the fan not coming on, no warning lights.
