hi guys

i want to know whats up with my car, along with the key fob not working as it should i now have another issue and i'm wondering are they related.

i've noticed the problem twice in the last week (after owning the car a year and a half it's a 1995 c220).

PROBLEM:-

when starting the car, i see the radiator lamp come on, and stay on for about 40 seconds, then it goes off and stays off. this has only happened twice in the entire time i've owned the car and in the last week. I popped the bonnet and checked the fluid level in the rad, it was just below the overfill exit pipe, so it's not empty by any means,

my car also suffers from the viscous coupling fan issue (havnt fixed that yet), and i'm wondering if the light is coming on due to the excessive heat the car/engine has endured this summer (although the temps are now very cool....)

any ideas guys ??

cheers

Its early days to worry about it, if you are not getting any problems see what happens, that's my advice.

thanks Malcolm,

i'm not getting any problems that I can discern, but the light comes on now 50% of the time when i start the car, so that's worrying for me.

what could be the cause of this ? and what is the light supposed to be alerting me too ?

cheers

I've had this too recently. It seems as though the header tank is full BUT I put about 3/4 of litre of water/antifreeze mix in it. May have been some air trapped. Anyway this solved the problem - no more radiator light.

Just fill it very slowly or a bit at a time and will take the water without going through the overflow.

Hope this helps
Mark.

I may be wrong but I thought the viscous coupling was replaced by a magnetic clutch which had a common fault of the temp sensor on the head failing and not engaging the clutch, simple test was to cross two pins ot the sensor plug hence bridging the circuit. Happened to my old 124, 25 euro fix.

You are right Mike, the electric clutch is on the later cars, if anyweb has got any wires coming out of the fan one goes to the first sensor on the top of the engine.
