I have a 2012 W204 C200 CDI that’s fitted with the Radiator Shutter (equipment option 2UI). The shutter never closes, even when it below zero degrees outside. Does anyone have any ideas on what the problem might be?

What's the point, the thermostat should regulate the temperature.

Are those shutters, related to transmission cooling?

Hi,

No, it’s in front of the radiator and is there to aid warm up of the engine, speed up cabin heat and reduce fuel consumption.

The engine control unit adjusts the shutter. The car radiator shutters will open when the vehicle reaches a speed above 180 km/h, the cooling water temperature reaches above 34 °C, suction fan performance requirements are above 30 % and the coolant temperature goes above 105 °C. The shutter remains closed when the engine is switched of or until these conditions are reached.

I cannot believe that I’m the only person that has a problem with the shutter and I was hoping that someone could suggest a “home” fix, such as a fuse.

Never had them myself but, placed at the front of the car and moveable, they must have every bit of crap possible thrown at them, I assume they must be hinged or swivel in some way? I'd be giving them a good clean first.

My W213 had them, I only had it for 18 months from new, so no issues with them. Also had them in a 5 series BM (shudder…)

That looks like the same info that was banded around for the Airpanel. That is active external shutters, which is different to active grill shutters that sit between the grill and the rads.
(Sorry link to the other place)...

You can't expect those rather specific (and rather basic) Airpanel conditions to apply to grill shutters too.
Shutters I've seen have always been the on the LiN bus, so are capable of communicating with ECU. If there was a problem with them there should be an error in the ECU.

@supernoodle, thanks, I did extract that from another thread, I really don’t know the difference. I was hoping for an easy fix, looks like a call to my Mercedes dealer is needed.

Why do you think they are broken?

How do you know they don't close at speed? Stationary, open or closed won't have much affect. I would expect moving in cold air closing would be an advantage.

You might be right. I’ll try and find out tomorrow from Mercedes.
