radiator w107 380sl v8 1984

looks like i might be needing a new radiator soon theres a slight damp patch and fins look damaged in certain areas it is original 23 yrs old ive been quoted £500.....can they be reconditioned...whats your advice ? the car does 800m per yr and uses 1pt water per yr

1) Check Yellow pages under "Radiator - Motor" and "Garage Services" for a local radiator repair firm. They can repair, recondition or recore your rad.

2) If that fails ask any local non-dealer garage who they use for rad repairs. Avoid the dealers, they don't repair anymore, just fit new parts!

Depends what state the radiator is in, if it is still comparatively scale free you can use one of the latest sealing compounds with added fibre - that`s what it says on the bottle! Worked on my 280 TE, which had a nasty little split at the base of the header tank. If it is all chalked up because you don`t use antifreeze, get a new core, Marston or Serck used to be my first choice. I used to solder my own radiators, but discovered that they have to be clean to stay leak free.
