Radio not working

Merc E 300 Turbo Diesel, 1997 R plate, the radio signal seemed to get very weak, now cannot tune into anything, tried another radio and still did not work, I have a dinky little aerial on the roof at the back is this the aerial for tha radio ? or is there an amplifier or something else I should be looking for, at the end of the day if I cannot sort this out I will fit an electric aerial on the back wing
Any suggestions welcome

The small Ae at the back will be from a car phone installation in the past. On 210's the Radio Ae is in the heated rear window, IIRC there is a Ae amp in the back.

In fact its on the nearside by the wheel arch.
