Radio Options on a W210

Hi All,

Does anyone know the official optional extras that would have been available on a 1996 W210 E230 in respect to radio / cd / 10 disc changers and so on?

Hi Nick,

No idea, though I can tell you that mine has a Becker head unit, which is called 'special' with traffic and rds option code 512 and cd changer alpine option 819.

Its a 1997 s210.

If you are planning to add the autochanger, beware - generally speaking the European models were not prewired for this option and for the price of going original, you can get a far better aftermarket unit installed.

Should an Audio 30 work in my 96 W210? It's a CD Head Unit but also has Sat Nav?

Yes, an APS 30 will work, but the CD changer will probably not!

Go for the BE4715 or BE4716 they are calculating faster than the older 4705 or 4707.

Once the destination is calculated you can use the inbuilt CD player for an audio CD.

Yes, it is from Latvia, but I bought one two Years ago from Latvia ( they buy an awful lot of secon hand cars from Germany and the software doe not work there) and I am still very happy with this unit!

Hi Nick

On the 210´s it was Audio 10´s fitted, either cassette or cd. The autochangers are 6 cd´s.
You are much better off looking through ebay at audio 10 cd´s and autochangers, which will fit in minutes, although the audio 30 does have the fibre optic socket for the autochanger.

The CD Changer in the boot in my Yr 2000 W210 was an Alpine unit badged as Mercedes with an Audio 10 Cassette in the front.

Optical units will work in a 1997 W210 - but you have to fit the fibre optic cable yourself. I fitted a late-model APS 30 (BE 4716) then fitted a MB 6-CD multichanger in the glove box. This isn't the standard place and I had to cut a hole in the back of the glove box, but its much more convenient than a changer in the boot, and easier to route the cables. The fibre-optic cable came from my local car radio shop who had just upgraded a CLK. The Mercedes dealer wanted £60 for a new one!
Incidentally, the GPS aerial fits neatly in the empty speaker grille on the corner of the dashboard, passenger side, just beneath the windscreen and gets very good satellite reception.

The original Autochangers (6 disc) are approx £280 + fitting from MB.
Mine went kapputt and I wasn't prepared to spend that much.
I replaced the Audio 10 (cassette) head unit with a single-shot Pioneer CD player for £100 fitted.
The sound is waaaay better and I'm very, very happy.
