radio reception very poor

My radio has always been poor reception . Connections of ariel at back are ok ,as are fuses . Is the ariel amplified ? if so where is it . I think the actual ariel is in the back hatch door , am I right ? any thoughts please . I have 2003 c class coupe 1,8 kompressor

IIRC there's an aerial amp in the headlining above the rear window (there was in my S203 estate), not sure how exactly to get at it!

I happen to have a brand new one gathering dust in my garage, if you need it and it's the correct part it's a lot cheaper than MB!

If like the C203 estate there is a pad that connects, somewhat casually, at the top of the rear screen. I used a UPVC window spacer pushed in with vigour to restore the connection.

A check of 12 volts at the anrtenna amp makes sense.

Another to look for is USB style items that produce RF interference, just disconnect them to see if a weak station gets stronger.

hi , there is a digital DAB Ariel stuck inside of windscreen left over from a radio that was removed and original Mercedes one put back before I bought the car , would this cause trouble ?

If the DAB antenna isn't connected I wouldn't imagine it would cause issue.

It has been known for the core of the antenna cable to separate at the radio end. For that you would need to check continuity between the core at the radio and the core at the antenna amplifier, a couple of needles would be useful for that.
I would check the items in my earlier post first though.
