I've just got a nice new E class and find driving it so stress-free (I've just sold my Porsche). One reason for this is that the intermittent wipe setting means you don't have to think if, perchance, there is moisture in the air.
I do know that the wipers are 'linked' to the brakes (to keep the discs dry in wet weather) and wonder whether it is O.K. to leave the wipers on intermittent setting all the time.
Anyone got any thoughts - apart from "what a lazy @&!!$*"

Congrats on your new car - nice one too. Very pretty and nothing really beats the CDi.

If you leave the wiper setting on intermittent, the wiper will sweep the screen once everytime yuo start the car. Not an issue really, but it may be annoying.

On the other hand, if you don't have a garage, then you don't really want the wiper scraping ice on a frosty morning, as you'll only end up at the MB parts dept paying £50 for some new wiper rubber !!!!

BTW, what Porsche were you driving ?

The Merc will be a magic carpet ride, but nothing beats a 911 as a pure driver's car. Different cars with different criteria so not fair to compare - they are the best though, since they both some from Stuttgart !! Best to own one of each....

Thanks Talbir, Wow!!! what a collection of toys you have, my face is bright green with envy.
Point of my question is my wonderment and ignorance of modern chip controlled electronics. I fear that if the wipers are left on intermittent, there may be other circuits that are 'on' which is why I mentioned the link to the brakes because when the wipers go, the brake calipers wipe the discs, clever little devils.
Incidently, the wipers don't do a wipe when I switch on.
At the end of the day if I'm that bothered I can switch them off. I'd just like to know.
The Porsche was a 944, 'she who must be obeyed' banned a 911 because of my 'terrible driving' and we had kids to cart around. It was my best car so far - 13 yrs owned, 1 battery and 1 exhaust and then sold 'as new'.

Hi Dave,

Seems like MB has updated the issue of wipers sweeping on start when left on intermittent....about time too !

Yes, very clever, if the calipers force the pads to wipe the discs when wipers run....neat trick.

From my point of view, I cannot see anything wrong then with leaving the wiper on intermittent.

BTW, 944 was a neat Porsche - apparently it handled better than nany other Porsche in the wet too.
