Hi all,
Just thought I'd share this one with you.
I've been treating my glass and headlights since the summer with RainX and have been constantly surprised by the fact that an entire windscreen of water could be thrown off in one sheet with a single wipe of the blade. Seemed to make all of the exterior glass much easier to clean as well.
Couple of days ago I had my first early morning cold, frosty start since buying my 190E - started first time (very happy about that). Best of all though was that while I watched neighbours hacking away at their glass it took me all of a minute or 2 to remove the ice from mine. Seemed as though the ice was frozen to itself but couldn't stick very well to the glass.
Cheers, Geoff.

HI, any good auto store. I think even Hellfords have it and I believe RainX now also do an interior glass treatment that stops your windows fogging up.
Cheers, Geoff.

I haven't decided whether to do the windscreen yet as with the rain sensor, the wipers tend to try to clear water that's already run off and it all gets a bit squeaky. Couldn't decide if it was a good or bad thing on the old E so haven't done the new one yet.

However, I always coat the rear window, mirrors and lights. Hadn't realised what an effect it made as I did the old E a while back, but driving home a couple of weeks ago I found I couldn't actually see out of the back window because it was raining. All I could see was blurred headlights. It struck me that this was something I wasn't used to any more. Coated it with the magic fluid and the now the it stays clear, rain or shine.
Wonderful stuff. Should be applied at the factory.

Geoff, Beats driving through puddles to get the bus queue and so subtle too.:D :D

Seriously though, I'll have a go at this one as I'm fed up getting cold scrapping the frost and ice off two cars.

Rain-X is the business, I use this all the time and try not to use my wipers at all. I find that using the wiper means that I have to reapply it more often. You need to get above 30mph before the water starts running off. This is a problem in built up areas where you also have trouble seeing because of the effect street lights have on wet windows.

I also have a windsceen polishing kit which removes a lot of the micro scratches caused be wipers.

It's great passing lorries as you will find that the wetter the window, the better you can see.

Try putting it on the drivers side only and they watch the reaction of your passenger when it rains.

It's good on the rear windows of Coupes as well.

I've been doing my glass all round

for over 20 years with Rain-x, or these days, that autoglym gloss protector. if you don't think it makes a difference, just do a bit and run your finger over it and onto an untreated bit. like popping the chute on a top-fuel dragster.
everything slips off more easily, bat-poo, chips, flies, and rain. and your wipers last longer as well, because you use them less, and when you do, they abrade less.

Just a thought but I have something similar which I bought to protect my new (very expensive) shower door at home.

It is made by Daryl and smells like some sort of solvent. It is wiped over the glass about every 6 months or so. The water just slides off. I might just try a little on the screen (passenger side) and see if it works. It may be the same formula as rain-x and will save me having to buy another product.

RainX

Hi all

RainX is on special offer at Halfords at the present time: January 05.

I have used RainX but not recently. I seem to recall when I used it last that the wiper blades tended to rub off the coating and frequent re-application was necessary. Maybe the formulation has been improved and is more durable these days!

Funny, but I've never thought of using RainX on headlamps. Maybe this was because my last car had folding headlamps. I have used RainX on mirrors and I can confirm it works well.

The rear windscreen of my C-class doesn't have a wiper. This would seem to be a good site upon which to apply RainX although in my experience this windscreen rarely gets dirty: it's self-cleaning. The side windows would benefit from the RainX treatment because I seldom operate them.

Oops! I've just bought a yellow bottle too. Can't recall seeing a pink one - ever. Is it the same shape and size as the yellow bottle, just pink in colour?

Hi All

I've been looking for Rain Wizard (reddish-pink container) in the shops but haven't located it, even in Halfords. Saw it advertised on ebay but the £2.00 P&P asked for by the seller is high and obviously chosen to offset the effects of a low winning bid. How much would one expect to pay for this item in the shops? The ebay bid was close to GBP4.00, inc. P&P, when I last looked.

I now remember seeing the product after QUOMAN described the container as looking rather like a 'butt plug'. I haven't seen this product lately. Has it been discontinued?

Rain X is brilliant stuff. I've been using it for years. It really does its stuff when you're passing artics on the motorway in the rain. It's even better when the artic is coming at you on an A road with a completely opaque wall of spray. The grey wall just explodes into millions of droplets and fairly flies off the screen as you drive through it. I usually gey through a couple of bottles a year at £5 per bottle.
