I have recently bought my 4th second hand Merc, the 1994 E 220 W 124 model, and it really is a lovely car !, however i have just discovered why the previous owner traded it in ( from his own lips ) apparently it wont start every three months or so ?....anyone heard of this type of occasional malfunction ? the only thing i can imagine is possibly a problem with the unfactory fitted toad alarm but these are supposed to be very reliable. where do i start ? as knowing me i will be stranded just when i dont want to be.

I am still trying to work through what might be a similar problem with my
E200... read through my query http://forums.mercedesclub.org.uk/showthread.php?t=43167
and see if any of the responses I have had help you at all ... some good pointers from knowledgeable people. Hope it is useful.

In my case a couple of times a year the engine will only catch with a blip on the throttle at the same time, but if the throttle is then left alone it dies instead of settling to an idle. Usually stops misbehaving after anything from a few seconds to a few mins, when it starts perfectly again ... in all other ways and at all other times it runs and drives like a dream ... sound similar?

Let me know if you overcome the fault in case it is something I haven't tried and it works!

Good luck.

Update....have had full diagnostic which of course revealed no faults, but luckily the car wouldnt start for the technicians after clear bill of health......they have cleaned the crank sensor and feel that this could be the problem......still worried though, and would like to hear from anyone who may have had a similar problem for other possible suggestions should it still not be fixed .
