Hi Guys,
DOnt know where this rattle is coming from... i only hear in quiet small built up streets. The car is 2001 sl320 M112 engine.
It seems to happen at the low rev range as well. Thought that it may be the cat but have had car on ramp and tapped the cats to see if i can hear the rattle but nothing.....
any ideas as it really bugs me when i drop the window and hear it?????

Hi Parrot,
You are right it is from front of my left hand side looking at the engine, i heard it this morning, usually i only hear when i drive the car on lowish revs but for whatever resaon it was audiable this morning.

I know for certain its not the cats as it dont do it all the time.

Do you know what it could be parrot?

Rattle Noise

This might not be of any help but i recently had a very regular tap.tap .tap on my 300TE.Not unlike the ticking tappets when cold.
But this was not the case,on watching the fan belt i cold see that the tick/tap was at belt speed.
On closer inspection what looked like a perfectly good belt had a small section missing on the inside, this was making the noise as it passed over just one of the pullys on the engine.
New belt ,no noise.
This is most probably nothing to do with your noise but you never know.

Once again may not be much help I had similar noise only heard in enclosed spaces whilst driving slowly. Turned out to be an underinflated tyre :)

guys,
i went to kwick fit, the guy there said that the noise seems to be from the rear part of the exhaust, as malcolm had pointed out earlier......
can anything besides replacing it rectify this or will i need to put new one on?

No easy fix Raj, you can never shut them up,short of replacement. I have senn guys poke sticks and all sorts up the pipes, but it only makes it worse.

I think for a perfect fit you have to go OE, I do not know of anyone that makes a good box for the 129067 car.

Stand the car up on end,on the front bumper and tip some fast setting resin down the exhaust pipe:D ,maybe not.

Change the extension of the file to a .txt

That way people should be able to save it to their desktop and rename it. The correct extension should be .3gp and Quicktime will play those.

Try file associations

Malcolm

Hi Malcolm, it's probable that your PC is set to associate all your media files to the Windows media player if you dont get a pop up box asking you what to do when you click on a certain file format. This is a windows environment issue not a browser issue. What type of Windows are your running?
below is the procedure in XP

How to change file associations
You may want to change the association of a file name extension from one program to another. For example, you may prefer to open text files (.txt) in your favorite word processor so that you can format the text. By default, text files are associated with Microsoft Notepad. By default, file name extensions for known file types are hidden.

To See All File Extensions
1. On the Tools menu in My Computer or Windows Explorer, click Folder Options.
2. Click the View tab.
3. Clear the Hide extensions for known file types check box.

To change file associations
1. Right-click a file with the extension whose association you want to change, and then click Open With.
2. In the Open With dialog box, click the program where you want the file to open, or click Browse to locate the program that you want.
3. Select the Always use the selected program to open this kind of file check box.

How to create file associations for unassociated file types
You may want to create a file association for a file type that is not associated with a program in your computer. There are two common reasons for this action:
• A program such as a database produces file reports with extensions that are not registered in Windows XP.
• You receive e-mail message attachments that are created in a program that is not installed on your computer, but there is an installed program that can read these files.
To create file association: 1. Right-click a file with the extension that you want to change, and then click Open, or double-click the file.
2. Windows XP displays a dialog box that indicates that no program is associated with this file. The dialog box offers two choices for creating an association:
• Use the Web service to find the appropriate program
• Select the program from a list
Unless you want to find and download software that opens this file type, the best choice is to select the program from a list.

3. Windows displays a dialog box that displays programs that are installed on the computer. If the program that you want to use for this file type is not listed, click Browse to locate the appropriate software. Select the Always use the selected program to open this kind of file check box.

Hope this helps
