Hi - Had new drivers side wishbone bush fitted yesterday, Thought it was the cause of the rattling noise, (it was broken up anyway), but the rattling noise is still there seems like it's coming from the passenger side and it becomes worse over rough road. also when reversing and applying the brakes you can hear and feel something moving? Anyone one have any ideas what could be causing this.

Thanks, Robboc180

check your shims!

Long shot but just check that you have got anti rattle shims in with your brake pads. In the past I've had new pads fitted and the 'technician' hasn't bothered to refit the shims. A test for this - moving forward at low speed if the rattle goes when you lightly apply the footbrake then this could be the cause. Regards.

Hydraulic lifters

Same 119 engine as the SL500 up to 97/98 these lifters I understand are made of plastic and cause a lot of trouble in the USA where there are thousands of cars with this engine. Most guys over there fix it themselves, you just have to lift the camshaft.pop the old ones out and pop the new ones in, just like that.

Can't really see valve lifters or brake pads having anything to do with this - only the usual suspension balljoints or ARB bushes, and with the reference to a feeling of movement, then the former IMO.

from Robboc180's original post, it sounds like a suspension problem. Easy things to look at are the anti roll bar bushes and wheel bearings.

Jack it up and see if there is any play anywhere.
