On the 210 the engine ECU is wired into the same fuse as one of the fans,so far so good.

Now the fan control unit is mounted just behind the front bumper and they fill up with water as on the 202 (may be others).

In the worst case they go completely short circuit and this blows the fuse, when this happens the engine will cut dead.

So you are driving down the motorway in the rain and the car engine stops,a highly dangerous situation.

Surely this is on a par with a faulty fly by wire throtle, the effect is the same.

When this has happened, the gear stick locks up,the windows do not work, and you cant get the key out.

During this last few weeks we have had at least 50 cars with water damage, every thing from lights filling up,ECUs,hard tops, soft tops, locking problems and alarms, all water damage.

I strongly recomend that any 210 owneres do the mod now,not in lane 4 of the motorway.

anyone got a photo of where to look in my W202 ?

You are OK in the 202 as the fan is on its own fuse. the control box that goes down is just behind the bumper near side on RHD, do not know if it is the same on LHD, this does not apply to cars with a Visco fan only it is for the fan on the rad if fitted.

it is the control for the electric fans that you have that gets the water in the Module

your car is a 202--- and the next 3 please and I will check for you.

I just had this modification done. In fairness the main dealer warned me about it. Replaced the fan that cools the ECU and altered some of the wiring. Fan is abour €145 to buy but worth it to avoid this trouble.
