The service schedule for my 2015 E350 Bluetec doesn't indicate an oil change for the Code HA axle although the Code 471 and Code P30 axles both require an oil change every 31k miles or 3 years. I've done 75k miles and have changed the axle oil because the diff on my old W210 estate failed at about 120k. Could anyone comment? I presume an oil change is a good rather than bad thing but not sure if the axle requires it?
Thanks for any responses

Funnily enough I’ve just ordered 3x Fuchs diff oil to do both my cars rear diffs . It’s a cheap easy job and I keep cars a long time . So I change the diff oil every 30-40k as I do the gearbox ATF .
I can’t comment on if it’s necessary but if you a long term keeper or high mileage owner it’s going to be worth doing earlier in your ownership .
£16 per L , you need 2L it’s cheap insurance ?

On any RWD car I buy with 50k or more recorded I always change the axle oil even if not in the maintenance schedule. For me as well as preventative it's informative because the old oil may be perfect or perhaps showing wear particles or even water contamination if for example you've bought a vehicle driven daily through a ford where maybe the seals were imperfect etc.

Really surprised a w210 diff died at 120k! Which bit failed or was it just noisy?
The w202 diff for example rarely gets oil changes and I've never heard a whisper from one. I do change the oil on mine nowadays every few years though. Smith Allen ep90 is cheap enough and as has been said it's an easy job.

Regular oil changes are the cheapest maintainance u can ever do. None of mine do over 5k miles and last time I did clk 320 it was 500 miles cos whatever they get done each Yr or 5k

Thanks everyone for the replies, as I thought basically, better to change it. I want to keep it and would have been happy to keep the w210 but it was a 2001 year and one of the rust buckets and I didn't want to face a total failure. It had become very noisy and I sold it to a Merc commercial vehicle mechanic who was happy at the price and was happy to drive it until it died - which it did.
